About
Davis

Davis is an attractive suburban community of approximately
66,000 residents and the home of the world-renowned University
of California, Davis. Sacramento, the state capital, is
14 miles east of Davis, and San Francisco is 72 miles
to the west. Davis residents have access to cultural facilities
and abundant recreational offerings in Davis and the San
Francisco Bay Area. Its close proximity to California’s
coastline, Sierra Nevada mountains, Mother Lode-Gold Rush
country, Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta and Napa Valley
makes Davis a desirable place to live and work.
Many families employed in the region live in the Davis
community to enjoy the advantages of its open spaces,
the ambiance of the university and the Davis public schools.
Davis has a distinctive character as a "university
town." The University of California, Davis began
as an agricultural college but now houses more than 25,000
students in various undergraduate majors and in a number
of professional schools, including medicine, engineering,
law, business and veterinary medicine.
A unique feature of Davis is the longtime popularity of
the bicycle as local transportation. Davis’s bikeways
have served as a model for cities throughout the nation.
Davis also enjoys a reputation for its concern for environmental
planning, including a solar energy ordinance that has
pioneered the building of solar energy homes in Yolo County.
